I lie to myself VERY effectively.

I expected to hang out with my cousins all night tonight because they are the wild ones, but jetlag set in and they were tired after we had dinner, so I brought them to the train and waited with them.
As they stepped on the train a homeless guy started asking me questions and for some reason I stayed and answered for almost an hour. He had some weird questions that he obviously expected some deep philosophical answer to, but I had only unsatisfactory, practical answers for him, answers that only brought more questions.
What’s periodic about the periodic table? Electron orbitals. What’s noble about the noble metals and why isn’t palladium one of them? Reactivity. Is there a connection between heat conductivity and electrical? I am not sure. Probably just the same factors contribute to both. I know people are working on it.
He pushed that he wanted to see me again, I gave in, gave him my full name and told him that I’d be at the bar for trivia 2 weeks from yesterday. I am not sure still how I feel about the whole thing. We’ll see in a couple weeks I guess, Al.
